We make sales training fun and effective
|
"I want you to imagine..." says Josh Gordon as he starts a training session to help salespeople ask questions so customers answer them. He invites his audience on an imaginary walk down busy West 57th Street in New York City. As he continues several characters "walk up" to the audience and ask for directions to Carnegie Hall. "Would you answer this man's question? asks Josh after each encounter. As each audience member weighs their personal response a deeper kind of learning is taking place.
While there are many lessons of selling that can be intellectually learned, many more are emotional.
Josh challenges salespeople to imagine situations where they re-examine their role in the selling process. His audiences think and feel the lessons and become more effective in the process. Said one attendee, "In Josh's session I learned by doing, not by listening to a lecture."
The interactivity in Josh's sessions come from his early days as an A/V training innovator. In 1980 he was written up in Training magazine (see right, Josh directs a training shoot) as the producer of the 27 ground-breaking A/V programs used to train over 600,000 workers who took the 1980 National Decennial Census. It was the first time A/V technology had been used to train on such a vast scale.
